Our Team

David, a non-practising lawyer, brings more than 15 years of experience in the legal, real estate and investment industries to his role as president of Westcourt Capital Corporation.

After having graduated from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law in 1994, David worked for 5 years in the field of golf management, after which he joined Magna Golf Club as Executive Director in 2001. At Magna, David oversaw the initiation of one of Canada's most respected private clubs. He also was responsible for the development of over $30 million in luxury residences adjacent to the Club property.

David joined Menkes Developments in 2005 as Executive Director of the Four Seasons Private Residences, Toronto, a $500 million luxury residential program associated with the new Four Seasons Hotel currently under construction in Toronto. After completing a successful launch of that program, David joined the small-business private equity firm Lynx Equity, where he further honed the investment knowledge and operations expertise that enable him to analyze and understand the intricacies of the financial products with which Westcourt now deals.

David remains a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA). He is a member of the Alternative Investment Management Association, and the Exempt Market Dealers Association of Canada. He is a regular contributor to the Financial Post and CBC's Lang & O'Leary Exchange, and co-hosted BNN’s Alternative Investing 2010-2011.

Dave has been actively involved in the Canadian investment industry since 1994. Having specialized in mutual fund research early in his career, Dave received his CFA charter in 2000 and founded Paterson & Associates in 2002. As president of Paterson & Associates, Dave has performed analysis on thousands of mutual funds and developed an expertise in exempt market investment funds, including hedge funds, mortgage investment corporations and real estate investment trusts.

In his role as Director of Risk and Research at Westcourt Capital, Dave provides essential expertise and experience in the sourcing and due diligence of investment funds that share the investment characteristics and philosophy of investment products currently on Westcourt's "recommended list".

After graduating from York University in 1976, Alex started his career in the financial services industry as a financial advisor at McLeod Young Weir, where he spent eight years.

Alex then moved into institutional sales and proprietary trading at the Bank of Montreal for a period of 11 years. His experience encompasses foreign exchange, money market, bond market, stock market and derivative products.

He moved onto international retail sales providing investment advice and products to Canadian expatriates living overseas. He travelled frequently to South America and Thailand providing assistance to his clients.

Alex has spent the last 7 years involved in selling alternative commercial mortgage investment products to investors prior to joining Westcourt in his role of Dealing Representative.

Lorie Haber serves as Senior Advisor to Westcourt Capital. Mr. Haber provides Westcourt with strategic advice and assistance, relying on his experience as a financial industry executive, securities lawyer, and corporate director.

From November 2005 to February 2009, Lorie was with the DundeeWealth Inc. group of companies, where he held a number of executive and management positions, including Executive Vice-President and Co-Head of Dundee Capital Markets and Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Dundee Securities Corporation. As a member of the Dundee executive team, he was integrally involved in the planning, execution and implementation of corporate development and strategy, and in the development of new areas of business. He was also responsible for non financial risk management in the firm’s capital markets and retail brokerage operations.

From January 2001 to July 2005, Lorie was the Executive Vice-President, Corporate Development and Governance, of National Bank Financial Inc. At National Bank Financial, he was a member of NBF’s executive team and had a broad range of governance, corporate, management and non financial risk management responsibilities.

At both National Bank Financial and Dundee, Lorie sat on key internal boards and executive and operating committees, and was integrally involved in representing these organizations in their relationships at the senior level with regulators, self-regulatory organizations and stock exchanges.

Prior to 2001, Lorie was a corporate and securities lawyer and partner in the Toronto law firm of Fogler, Rubinoff LLP for fifteen years. He is also a past member of the Securities Advisory Committee to the Ontario Securities Commission, and has served as a director and trustee of several public, private and non-profit companies and agencies.

Lorie holds a B.A. (Hons) in Political Science from the University of Toronto.
